How is Modo Yoga different?

Great question. First of all, our studio is a chemical-free, hypo-allergenic environment. Our rooms are heated differently from other hot yoga you might have tried; we use radiant heating panels, which are energy-efficient and feel like sunlight rather than hot air. Our series of postures is focused on spinal health and alignment, making this a yoga practice you can do every day for the rest of your life without fear of injury. Last but not least, we live by the 7 Pillars, a set of philosophies that guide everything from our studio buildout to our weekly charity-supporting Karma Classes. Do you have any classes that aren’t hot?

Yup! We have a second unheated room we call the Moon Studio, where you can take active Yang/Yin or relaxing Yin, all at normal room temperature. It’s also where we hold our Kids’ Classes.

Speaking of kids… can I bring mine to class with me?

Hot yoga isn’t recommended for kids, so we offer unheated Kids’ Classes. Parents can get a well-needed hour of yoga at the same time! Check our schedule for classes. If your son/daughter/etc. really REALLY wants to try the hot room, age 16 and up is fine.

What should I wear?

Wear anything you’re comfortable stretching, sweating, and most importantly, bending over in. Most students wear light tank tops or t-shirts; men often go shirtless. Leggings, crops, and shorts are good choices for your bottom half. If you plan on meeting friends for dinner after class, bring a change of clothes!

Do you have showers?

Yes! We have showers, soap (BYO shampoo/conditioner), hair dryers, sinks, mirrors, pretty much everything you need.

Do you have lockers?

We have a limited number of lockers, first come first serve. You take the key with you into class and replace it when you’re done. If you don’t arrive in time to get a locker, we lock our studio doors during class and most people feel safe leaving their things out in the locker room. If you’re uncomfortable, feel free to leave your phone and any valuables in your car. We cannot secure personal items at the front desk.

What should I bring?

Bring a yoga mat, a towel for the hot room, another towel if you’d like to shower, and a water bottle. We have filtered water stations and a cold water fountain for filling up. All of these items are also available to rent for $2 each.

Where should I park?

There is a parking lot for the shopping center, but it fills up pretty quickly, so your best bet is the parking garage. It’s free and there are three floors–plenty of space! On very busy evenings, the garage can sometimes fill up as well, in which case there is street parking along Easy Wind and Sugaree, or you can park in the Highland neighborhood just across Lamar. Arrive early to get a space!

What if I’m late?

To preserve everyone’s experience, we don’t allow latecomers into class–no exceptions. Arrive at least 10 minutes before class to give yourself time to park, change, fill up your water bottle, and settle into your spot in the practice.

Should I eat before class?

Probably not within an hour of class. Some people like to leave a 2-hour buffer. A full stomach combined with heat and lots of bending/twisting makes for an unhappy tummy! More important is that you drink plenty of water. We follow a “3 Bottle Rule”–one bottle before class, one during, one after.

Do you have a student discount?

Definitely–students, teachers, military, and Police/Fire/EMS personnel get 20% off all passes, and students get an extra-special membership price of $75/month.

Do you have a discount for Midtown Commons residents?

Yes indeed! Residents and employees of the Midtown Commons center get 20% off all passes and memberships.

Can I bring my phone in the practice room?

We don’t allow phones in the practice room. Your Modo practice is a chance to unplug and let the outside world fall away. Please leave your phone in the locker room or in your car.
